IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor-1)

IGF-1 profile

IGF-1 is a peptide hormone that is secreted by the liver and is responsible for the growth of muscles, cartilage, nerve cells and just about any other type of cell in the body. It is popular among athletes because it has amazing regenerative properties for damaged muscles and equally amazing muscle building properties. In fact, it does not only make muscle fibers larger, it will actually increase the number of muscle fibers in the body. This is why users will keep their mass gains well after discontinuing use of IGF-1.

IGF-1 usage and dosage

IGF-1 is an injectible drug that is best used just after an intense workout. It is injected intramuscularly and works best if injected into the muscle groups used during a workout. For example, a user who just worked out his/her biceps would inject 20 mcgs into each bicep. Doses of IGF-1 range from 20 mcgs to 120 mcgs, however a dose between 20 and 40 mcgs is sufficient.
Another common practice for IGF-1 users is to inject for 5 days then take 2 days off. A cycle of IGF-1 can last between 4 and 8 weeks and should be followed by as many weeks off. Users will also often take IGF-1 at the end of a steroid cycle as part of post cycle therapy to keep muscle gains throughout their break from steroid intake.

IGF-1 side effects

Immediate side effects of IGF-1 are minor – nausea and hypoglycemia being the most common. However, people with cancerous tumors will accelerate the growth of the tumors by taking IGF-1, which is why this drug is not recommended for people who have a family history of cancer or tumor growth.

IGF-1 availability

IGF-1 is sold in either lyophilized powder form or already reconstituted form ready for injection. IGF-1 comes in 1 ml/mg vials that cost around $150.

IGF-1 research

There has been quite a lot of research into IGF-1, not only as a drug but as a natural peptide in the body as well. There are many doctors who are excited by the potential for this drug to be a literal fountain of youth that can reverse the atrophy on the muscles caused by aging – especially on the most important muscle, the heart. Other research has included the effects on the nervous system and the repair of damaged cartilage and bone.
